Alpha Lipoic Acid is said to be a powerful antioxidant that aids in the neutralization of free radicals i.e unstable molecules that cause damage, within the body. It is easily absorbed by the gut whether taken in food or as a supplement and is used to detoxify the liver by increasing levels of glutathione which then go on to dissolve toxic substances contained in liver cells. It helps vitamins such as C and E be more efficient and is particularly efficient at alleviating the symptoms of glaucoma and generally protecting the lens and retina from degenerative processes. It can be especially beneficial for those with raised blood sugar levels as in diabetes, anyone with a high level of cholesterol or who has hardening of the arteries or early stage cataracts.

The extract is very beneficial for people who suffer from diabetes mellitus, piles and jaundice.

Fenugreek is an herb and a spice, whereby the leaves are used as an herb and the seed as spice. Historically the use of fenugreek can be traced back to 4000 BC in Iraq, Bronze Age Kingdom of Judah, and was found in desiccated form in the tomb of Tutankhamen. The use is very widespread, from being a common ingredient in curry, to the inexpensive use as a maple syrup surrogate product ingredient in the United States, this herb and spice has found its way into many cuisines all over the world. Fenugreek seeds were used in the traditional Chinese medicine bearing the name Hu Lu Ba. They contain considerable amounts of the polysaccharide galactomannan, but also diosgenin, yamogenin, togogenin, neotigogens and gitogenin. Further components are volatile oils, mucilage and alkaloids, including trigonelline and choline.
Garcinia Cambogia is a small fruit that looks just like a small size pumpkin. An extract from its fruit and rind has been used to prepare various products mainly for weight loss. This herb, which is mainly found in India and some parts of Asia, is believed to suppress appetite and enhance fat-burning due to the presence of hydroxycitric acid (HCA) in the extract. This is how it works - HCA inhibits an enzyme called citrate lyase that plays an important part in converting excess carbohydrates into fat, but when it is inhibited, the body burns the extra carbs. While animal studies have suggested reduced food intake and decrease in body fat, human trials have not been so conclusive.
Gymnema Sylvestre, also known as Gurmar and Meshashringi, or 'sugar destroyer'.
Gymnema Sylvestre leaves have a blood sugar lowering effect. The leaf extracts also contain gymnemic acid which inhibits hyperglycemia and also acts as a cardiovascular stimulant.
Gymnema Sylvestre is commonly used to remove the taste of sugar, therefor reducing cravings for sweets.
Magnesium Stearate is coommonly used as a filling agent in the manufacture of capsules and tablets, such as vitamins, the source of this ingredient is typically bovine. However, there is an increasing number of vegetarian options in which the product specifically indicates it contains magnesium stearate from vegetable sources.
N-Acetyl L-Cysteine or "NAC" is derived from simple amino acid cysteine and is of great medicinal value. N-acetyl-cysteine has the ability to neutralize cell and DNA damaging free radicals and therefore plays an important role in slowing down the process of aging. As such, it protects us from a wide range of modern toxins including paraquat (a toxic herbicide), acrolein (present in cigarette smoke and auto exhaust), halothane (an anesthetic), adriamycin (both anticancer drugs) and hazardous side effects of cyclophosphamide. Apart from this toxin protection, it also facilitates in converting and synthesizing glutathione, an amino acid that is found in every cell. This amino acid comprises of glycine, L-glutamic acid, and L-cysteine, out of which glycine and L-glutamic acid are present in large quantities in our diets. Despite this, our bodies can produce glutathione only in limited quantities due to limited availability of cysteine. N-acetyl-cysteine supplements thus help the body increase production of glutathione.
